About the role

This is a 3 day per week position.  Working in conjunction with the general assistant.

The role in this position includes, but is not limited to duties such as:

  • Establish and cultivate a range of crops as agreed with teaching staff; maintain crops, including pest and weed control, fertilisation, watering and drainage
  • Undertake stock control duties, including the receipt, storage and inventory of farm supplies, in accordance with school procedures and safe work standards (e.g. chemical storage and handling) 
  • Perform a range of general farm maintenance tasks, including storehouse and fencing; mow and care for grassed areas associated with the school’s agriculture plot
  • Assist with the care of livestock and poultry, and where required, undertake associated breeding program tasks
  • Operating and maintaining farm and school machinery
  • Comply/cooperate with health and safety guidelines/procedures (including wearing personal protective equipment supplied by the employer - as required); report incidents and hazards; participate in training
  • Other duties as required by the Principal and Head Teacher Science/Agriculture

 

Role criteria

  • Demonstrated experience in carrying out the duties of a Farm Assistant
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to undertake work with minimal supervision in a timely manner
  • Knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety regulations.
